NCDR and Pacific Disaster Center (PDC) renew the decade partnership— signing the new MoU

NCDR and Pacific Disaster Center (PDC) renew the decade partnership— signing a new Memorandum of Understanding to extend the collaboration between the two organizations. The bilateral MoU was signed since 2009, NCDR and PDC have worked together on disaster management technology and capability building, and will continue making efforts to strengthen disaster resilience and risk reduction.

National Science and Technology Center for Disaster Reduction (NCDR) under the Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association, American Institute in Taiwan (AIT/T), and British Office Taipei co-host the 2021 Global Cooperation and Training Framework Seminar“Building the Resilience of Nations and Communities to Disasters”on 10 March. Deputy Minister Minn-Tsong Lin, Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu, Chief Representative IZUMI Hiroyasu, Director William Brent Christensen, and Representative John Dennis delivered the remarks. In addition to sharing the experience of disaster resilience of Taiwan, the United States, Japan and Britain, this conference also jointly commemorated the 10th anniversary of the Tohoku (311) earthquake in Japan. Meanwhile, there were various countries’ envoys in Taiwan attended this event physically, including the Ambassadors of Saint Christopher and Nevis, Tuvalu, Guatemala and Nauru, and the Officials from Australia, Canada, the Czech Republic, Poland, South Africa, Nigeria, Vietnam, Israel, as well as the NGO groups, and a number of experts and scholars. At the same time, about 110 officials and DRR experts from 35 countries including Japan, the Philippines, Vietnam, Israel, and Thailand participated online.

2020 International Training Workshop - Youth Leadership Camp on Disaster Risk Management

Through scenarios simulation to hands-on operations, the National Science and Technology Center for Disaster Reduction (NCDR) and the Tzu Chi Foundation (Tzu Chi) collaborate to organize the 2020 International Training Workshop - Youth Leadership Camp on Disaster Risk Management (2020 ITW) focusing on capacity building for disaster preparedness. There are 82 participants from 21 countries, including Southeast Asia, Europe, Africa, Central America, and South America who major in disaster management in universities of Taiwan. The workshop was held in 1 Sep in Xindian Jing Si Hall and 2 to 4 Sep in TzuChi Miaoli to practice the Scenario simulation of disaster assistance.

Based on the passed collaboration, President HAYASH Haruo, NIED and Director CHEN Hongey, NCDR signed the memorandum of cooperation on disaster reduction on 10 March in Taipei. The two parties will keep strengthening the S&T of application and sharing on earthquake, landslide and flood in the future.

Brief Introduction
The National Science and Technology Center for Disaster Reduction (NCDR), serving as a technical advisor to the Executive Yuan (Cabinet) on disaster prevention and reduction affairs, was established in July 2003.
