On April 21, the National Science and Technology Center for Disaster Reduction (NCDR) officially renewed the Memorandum of Cooperation with Japan’s National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience (NIED) in Tsukuba City, Japan. The signing ceremony was jointly hosted by Director Hongey Chen of NCDR and President Kaoru Takara of NIED.
The MoC was first inked in 2020. Over the past five years, driven by a shared vision to advance regional disaster resilience and the application of technology, NIED and NCDR have resulted in multiple substantive projects and collaborative initiatives.
The NCDR and NIED previously formed joint post-disaster investigation teams in response to the 2024 Hualien earthquake in Taiwan and the 2024 Noto Peninsula earthquake in Japan. NCDR and NIED collaborated in sharing disaster survey data, assessment methods, and impact analysis results. Together, the two organizations co-authored post-disaster investigation reports to serve as valuable references for future disaster response efforts.
